I tend to do the same challenges / sew alongs /projects each year, with the different one offs in between. This year I planned to finish off some tops that had been on the shelf for a while - of which I did finish a few. The first sew along of the year for the past 6-7 years has been the Focuscutting Sewalong. This year the shape was a square. Usually the shapes make a hexie, and a square (above) doesn't fit my 'hexie' quilt, so I'm not as enthusiastic about it this year. I've made a few, and have a few more to make - they will be holiday sewing.
Another year long project is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I really enjoy using up scraps and 'crumbs' to make little bits and pieces. I usually make them as leaders and enders when sewing different projects. This month the colour is yellow.
Block Mania is another monthly project that I like. I don't do a lot of the blocks but when something comes up that I like, I make it. This month the theme is 'Night Sky'. I subscribe to The Inquiring Quilter and I really like the block that Jennifer has designed. I found this fabric, but might go a little darker for the sky. I can see me making a number of these blocks, each one a little different. But for tomorrow, just this one.A FaceBook Group I follow, Moda Blockheads, is starting a new project the end of September, so I'll be making some or all of those blocks. A new block comes out each week. I'll start this after the holiday.
And last, and probably my favourite, is Bonnie Hunters Quiltville Mystery. I love sewing pieces each week and seeing how the pieces all come together. I've made this mystery every year since Orca in 2011. This starts in November.

I came across this sea themed fabric in my scraps so thought I would make another TV block.

The colour for June is pastels - so I might give that a miss. Instead I will start sewing some butterfly blocks together ans my leaders and enders for the next project.
Today I will iron and trim all the above and tidy up the sewing room in readiness for my next project - which may be another triangle quilt.

The colour for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge for April was pink - one of my three favourite colours. I made some pineapple blocks...
... and some insects.I made some scrappy 6.5" blocks and some 4.5" blocks for a future quilt top.
Also some more coasters. For this month of May, the colour is orange.
I'm starting a new quilt top this week with triangles - more in a few weeks.

I have been working on April RSC blocks this week and last. I have so many pink scraps!
Today was the first full day I was able to spend in the sewing room, and it was wonderful. By 1.30pm I thought it must have been 5.30 😇, and I got so much done. Let's hope it continues all weekend.Link Up Parties for Inspiration:

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour for August was aqua. I always struggle with colour shades so these are not really blues so must be aqua/teal/turquoise - well anyway I'm happy with the colour. I sorted all the scraps and started cutting and sorting.
I bagged any triangles, cut 1.5", 2", and 2.5" squares and strips. Any fabric that could still be sewn went into the 'other blues' container for scrap (and crumb) sewing/
I completed 3 of the triangle log cabin type blocks.I also made 4 drink coasters. I had black fabric scraps so backed them with black and I really liked the way it looks, so maybe all future coasters will be backed in black.
I also had another month of Echo Modern Triangle (by Bryan House Quilts) quilt block that I wasn't going to use in my version of Echo. Instead I made one small centrepiece type block with 4" triangles........ and another placemat for a round dining table using three 6" blocks.
With each placemat I try a different type of quilting design, to suit the piece. This one I used a criss-cross pattern.

Sewing crumb blocks are a good way to use up smaller scraps. Last year I made some place mats with the blocks and kept the left overs.
The colour for August is aqua.
It's a cold rainy winters day here in Queensland and that means a good day for inside sewing and binge watching TV.
