Finishing a project

I have a small design wall with unfinished small projects layered on it, so this week I decided to finish one. I have always wanted to have a wall hanging for the seasons and occasions. This quilt (it is large enough to use a small lap quilt) / wall hanging I made way back in November 2017. I'm not sure I had in mind to make it as a wall hanging back then, but that is what I want it for now. It is from Missouri Star You Tube channel and is called Fall Shenanigans Quilt. I started by adding a thin black border and decided not to use batting, only backing, it is going to be a wall hanging and doesn't need batting as I was using a thick cotton backing that is too thick for quilts. I quilted it using a free motion meandering stitch. I added a hanging sleeve - is that what it is called?

I felt it needed a bright border, and I have a really large collection of plain fabric and orange was perfect for the binding. I machine stitched the binding to the front of the wall hanging and hand stitched the back. I must remember to do a label!!

Here are the first four rows of Sugaridoo Bernina quilt along. I was asked last week if the pink row was paper pieced. Yes, I will try to be more informative with my posts in the future. The first four rows are all paper pieced.

Finishing the Year and Ready for a New One.

I hope you all had a very merry Christmas. We had very welcomed rain here and a lovely day with family.
Peter and I made an A Frame tent for the girls. I first found the pattern 7 years ago - yes 7 years ago, and it took a back page of the Bunnings catalogue for Peter to make a few weeks ago.
I also decided to have a go at bunting, after watching a Missouri Star Quilt Video and I'm so happy with the way it turned out I've made a few more.

I also finished the Simply Colorful Fall Mystery which turned out to be 4 placemats.

Last post I had started part one of the Bernina Sew Along hosted by Sugaridoo. This past week I completed part two which is row one. As the rows are quick to make I'm going to make a second one in different colours. The left row is actually a darker shade than the one on the right.

This week saw the final star blocks for the 2019 fussycutting sewalong. Now I need to do a round of white, and then sew the final star blocks on, back, quilt and bind.

Making EPP Templates

Have you ever been happily sewing and run out of your epp papers? I often do, and it reminds me to finish some epp projects to free up some papers. I wasn't able to get to a sewing shop, so did some google research and decided to make my own. It took about two hours, but now I have a master I'll be able to print off when needed. I think it will be easier to make the templates for next years (2020) #fussycuttingsewalong as I have not been able to find them as yet. Interesting, while 'researching' I came across a YouTube video that shows one how to cut templates from a Cricut machine - I have a Cricut machine. I will be trying this.

I saw a video from Missouri Star Quilt Company about quilt as you go hexies and remembered I had the templates for this, so I got them out and was inspired to make a Christmas tree skirt - work in progress.

 

 

I've also been working on catching up with the #fussycuttingsewalong - better now I have the papers.

 

 I also completed the next section of the Galloromanic Moasic mystery.

 ...and also started a modern mystery row by row sew along hosted by Sugaridoo.

And of course I started Bonnie's new mystery.
