Solstice - A Make Modern Triangle Quilt

This will be the third quilt I have made using Bryan House Quilts Make Modern Triangles. The first one used only one block and I made a lap quilt. The second one was a block of the month quilt and I made a double bed quilt from a pattern called Echo, also from Bryan House Quilts. This one I made as time would allow me, and I really had fun doing it. This is part one. I used the freezer paper method to paper piece each block.

Now all that was left was the background to make it fit a queen bed.

I still need to add borders to the sides to allow for hang over.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge

 

 

The Rainbow Scrap  Challenge colour for August was aqua. I always struggle with colour shades so these are not really blues so must be aqua/teal/turquoise - well anyway I'm happy with the colour. I sorted all the scraps and started cutting and sorting.

I bagged any triangles, cut 1.5", 2", and 2.5" squares and strips. Any fabric that could still be sewn went into the 'other blues' container for scrap (and crumb) sewing/

I completed 3 of the triangle log cabin type blocks.

I also made 4 drink coasters. I had black fabric scraps so backed them with black and I really liked the way it looks, so maybe all future coasters will be backed in black.

I also had another month of Echo Modern Triangle (by Bryan House Quilts) quilt block that I wasn't going to use in my version of Echo. Instead I made one small centrepiece type block with 4" triangles.....

... and another placemat for a round dining table using three 6" blocks.

 

With each placemat I try a different type of quilting design, to suit the piece. This one I used a criss-cross pattern.

 

I think this is the last colour for this year in the RSC. This month, September, the colour is lights and brights blues and greens. The following months are setting the scrap blocks into quilts. So I think I will continue with these scraps  until next year when the new colours come out, or I run out of scraps.

Modern Triangle: Echo Block 5

 

Last week was a week of ups and downs. We cut short our camping trip - just too much rain and headed home, which was good because I could sew. The next block for Echo by Bryan House Quilts had been released while we were away - I made two sample blocks for part 5 (top right) and didn't like them! When I started this quilt along I knew I wanted a black background and I planned to have a small bit of black in each block. That worked well for the first two blocks which will be the centre of the quilt, then I forgot - even though I had written it down on my planning notes. When each block is released a month apart, I forget what I'm doing, so blocks 3 and 4 didn't have any black. Then when I remembered and added black to block 5, I thought it looked terrible. 

So I made another two sample blocks without the black and I think it looks much better.

The actual Echo pattern calls for 6 blocks to be made to go in one corner, with different triangle blocks in the other 3 corners. I decided to put this block in the four corners and I'm making 24 of the blocks. 

My leaders / enders are the red and white borders for my Old Town mystery quilt by Bonnie Hunter.
