I'm terrible at colour choices. I started pulling fabric from my stash for Bonnie Hunters new mystery which starts tomorrow 'my time'. The reds were easy, and the turquoise, but the coral/melon just so hard to choose. Maybe my idea of coral/melon is different, although I chose a colour card that was very similar. My colour choices just didn't have enough contrast. So I'm using a lighter pink rather than coral/melon. The contrast is much better.I even did a "Fun Fast Color" - colour! tutorial from Bryan House Quilts. Very informative, but I'm still not very good at choosing colours.
In the past few weeks I did make - in a day - a pillowcase for my granddaughter. I used the roll method.
Very easy, but I'll have to watch the YouTube tutorials again to make another one.

I think this will look great! I'm planning to join in but I haven't pulled colours yet (nowhere to put them). I'm leaning towards using softer ones and making 1/4 size for a baby quilt.
ReplyDeleteGreat fabric pulls! I like the pink and it's close enough to what Bonnie calls coral. I can't wait to see what Bonnie comes up with this year!
ReplyDeletePretty pillowcase! I'm sure your granddaughter will love it. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

It's your quilt. Color it as your heart and head dictate. Taking black and white images to determine value/contrast avoids disappointment down the road. What special pillowcase for your granddaughter. Bet she loves unicorns and rainbows.
ReplyDeleteI always wait a bit before plunging into Bonnie's mystery projects but I'll admit, I've picked out some colours. I'm eschewing the aquas and corals and reds and selected what I call 'dull' blue-greens (they have a bit of grey in them) and burnt oranges instead of the reds/corals. Not sure about the neutrals just yet...time will tell! (I prefer to work from stash and not have to buy anything for the top unless I run out!)
ReplyDeleteI understand how difficult it can be to choose colors. The best advice I ever received from a quilting instructor is "Choose what feels right to you." Color is instinctual. Using your black and what photos to determine value was an excellent resource to use. That helped you determine contrast, and you did it well. Have fun with Bonnie's along. I did it once, way back in 2011. Ended up with a huge pink and red quilt... and had a hard time finding a home for it that wasn't mine! Never again.
ReplyDeleteDid my fabric pull yesterday & started cutting Part 1. I went with her color choices because I like them & had plenty. LOL
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the melon in your stash not contrasting well with your red. I like your second choice! I didn't have salmon/melon in my stash so used yellow instead. I hope you are well into clue 1 by now. .. I've just started. I always enjoy Bonnie's mysteries.--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
